Are you a small business stakeholder? If so, you are invited to a United States-European Union workshop on September 28th, 2022 in Augsburg, Germany.

This workshop is organized by prominent institutions: the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administration, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Trade and Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs.

You will have the opportunity to connect and discuss relevant topics with international small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and Government officials from the United States of America, the European Commission, and European Union Member States. This year’s theme is “SMEs Rising: Recovery Together on Both Sides of the Atlantic.”

TOPICS for discussion will include:

  • Promoting SMEs growth through U.S.-EU trade opportunities.
  • Empowering SMEs, startups, and scale-ups including an update on the work of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council with regard to promoting SME access and the use of digital tools.
  • SMEs access to finance.
  • Creating an environment for SMEs to succeed during the post-pandemic transition through economic development and workforce development strategies.

The U.S.-EU SME Workshop is an annual conference. Each year, the U.S. and the EU alternates hosting this conference. It offers the opportunity for small businesses to engage directly and discuss trade topics of interest with these institutions’ representatives: the United States, the European commission, and the EU Member States Government officials, associations from both sides of the Atlantic.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the United States of America and Europe’s economy. They’re vital for communities across both sides of the Atlantic. They are essential to the United States and Europe’s competitiveness and prosperity as well as to their industrial ecosystems, economic and technological sovereignty, and resilience to external shocks.

For instance, America’s thirty-three million SMEs’ success is powering the U.S. economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also supporting strong job creation and an historically low unemployment rate.

In the European Union, SMEs represent 99% of all businesses with about twenty-three million businesses. They employee around 100 million workers and account for more than half of Europe’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
