Join us for an in-person discussion about the new requirements of human rights due diligence in Europe & the United States. The panel will provide an overview of the legal framework and recent changes in EU policy as well as related laws in member states such as Germany, France, The Netherlands and United Kingdom.

AGENDA TOPICS INCLUDE:
● Examples of recent human rights law suits and criminal charges against companies: Criminal charges initiated by NGOs against (German) companies.
● Criminal law and civil law aspects of human rights violations: Who is responsible for human rights violations under criminal law? What are possible claims under civil law? What is the role of NGOs and Trade Unions? What courts are competent in the EU for human rights due diligence violations?
● Legal situation in the EU from a supranational perspective (specific EU law): Presentation of the European Commission proposal of 24 March 2022 on a sustainable corporate due diligence Directive
● Comparative law overview of the legal situation in Germany, France, The Netherlands and United Kingdom. The panel will also examine recent US legislation and regulations.
● Best practices for companies importing into the US.
