Ilaria Curti Joins the Firm as Counsel

Portolano Cavallo announces the appointment of Ilaria Curti as counsel.
Ilaria will lead the Internal
Investigations group, expanding the Firm’s offering to white collar crime defense.
“Ilaria […] assists multinational clients, particularly within the pharmaceutical and automotive sectors, with corporate criminal liability investigations concerning corruption and fraud. She draws praise for being ‘structured, analytical and technical in her advice’.”
Ilaria has many years of experience in Internal Investigations and white collar crime, representing individuals and corporations in court and advising on Italian Legislative Decree No. 231/01 on corporate crimes as well as corporate compliance and whistleblowing, in particular for clients in the Life Sciences sector.
Thanks to her knowledge and expertise of Internal Investigations, especially cross-border ones (for example in connection with FCPA, OFAC, UK Bribery Act, etc.), Ilaria is the only Italian lawyer recognized by Global Investigations Review in its world-wide reports “40 under 40” in 2017 and “100 Women in Investigations” since 2018. She is also ranked by Chambers Europe as an “Associate to watch” for White Collar Crime as well as Compliance. She is included by Who’s Who Legal among the “Future Leaders” in the WWL: Investigations 2019 guide.
Ilaria has also developed in depth expertise on trade compliance, assisting leading Italian multinational groups in complex export control issues including in particular “dual use” regulations.
Ilaria joins Portolano Cavallo from DLA Piper, where she was a lead lawyer in the White-Collar Crime, Investigations & Compliance Group. Prior to that, she worked with CMS Adonnino Ascoli & Cavasola Scamoni, in the Corporate Crimes, Compliance and Investigations Department.
Ilaria is author and co-author of several publications in her areas of expertise and she is regularly a speaker at seminars, conferences and specialization courses on Internal Investigations. She is a member of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (WWCDA) and of the International Bar Association (IBA).
Ilaria graduated in law from the University “Roma Tre”, and in 2005 she also obtained a Master’s Degree cum laude in Investigations and Criminology from the University “La Sapienza” in Rome.
