The Basque Country and the Commonwealth of Virginia sign a MoU for the development and implementation of renewable energies

The Basque Country and the Commonwealth of Virginia will be collaborating in the development and implementation of technologies applied to renewable energies, as well as energy efficiency and storage.

This is the outcome of the MoU signed on August 24th between the Basque Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability, and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, and the Secretary of Commerce and Trade from the State of Virginia, Brian Ball. The two institutions are committing themselves to work together in areas such as wind energy, photovoltaics, smart grids and energy management, hydrogen, and storage. This agreement will be key for enabling Basque companies to participate in the main wind energy projects for this American state.

The Basque Country is one of the few regions worldwide that covers the entire wind energy farm value chain. Its wind energy industry is the strongest at the national level and is key to help Spain rank third worldwide in terms of the net value of its exports of this technology.

The Basque Country’s extensive recognition of wind and energy products and technology led to it hosting the most important European event in the field of wind energy, Wind Europe in 2019. This event will take place once again in Bilbao on 5-7 April 2022, thus reaffirming its support for the thriving Basque wind energy business network.
