Benjamin Franklin famously said that there are only two things that are certain in life—death and taxes.
Well, I would argue that the one thing death and taxes have in common is that they both create a change in your life. So, in my personal philosophy, the one guarantee in life is change.
Change is inevitable and it is unavoidable. Yet, many human beings instinctively resist change. I think that one of the reasons I had success at a young age is because I embrace change, reject the status quo, and take risks on implementing new ideas.
Whenever someone has said, “No” to me in business, I have gone over their head. It is a tactic that has made me unpopular with some peers and co-workers, but you do not know if something new is going to work unless you try it.
The media industry is on the forefront of every technological change that happens in society. Content drives consumption. The entertainment industry produces and distributes content. Therefore, TV, film, magazines and digital video makers are forced to change as innovation and technology shift.
I also ascribe to the philosophy that you should fail fast. If something you are experimenting with does not work, get out fast. Of course, paramount to this philosophy is that you have to be willing to fail, because if you do not, it means you are not innovating and growing with the one thing that is inevitable in life—change!
