ExportNYC: A Roadmap for Creating Jobs Through Exports

We wanted to let you know about a new report the office of the  Manhattan Borough President released today called ExportNYC: A Roadmap for Creating Jobs Through Exports. You can read more about it in today’s Wall Street Journal, and access the full report on their website here.

With ExportNYC, they offer a comprehensive vision for how New York can help local businesses create solid, good paying jobs by exporting more of their goods and services around the globe.

In 2010, New York ranked 93rd out of the top 100 American cities when it came to exports as a share of GDP. The regional economy has rebounded recently, but we can do more.

Today, we are proud to stand with the Brooklyn Brewery and other “Made in New York” business owners who have already boosted their bottom lines and created jobs by tapping into their export potential. Watch videos with stories from Brooklyn Brewery and Thea Grant.

There are great benefits to exporting:

  • For every $1 billion of new exports, almost 5,000 jobs are created,
  • Exporting businesses pay wages that are 13 to 18 % higher than those that do not.

The bottom line is — we need to do everything we can to encourage businesses of all sizes to create good, middle class jobs through exporting.

Thank you as always for your support, and please don’t hesitate to share with me your own ideas for how we can improve New York City’s economy.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Stringer
Manhattan Borough President
