Update on W2NYC Challenge

A number of exciting updates this week, including the announcement of the W2NYC companies!

•  The delegates!: The NYCEDC has confirmed a diverse mix of 15 companies from the transportation, smart infrastructure, and energy sectors, hailing from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States (Arizona, Florida, Massachusetts, and Michigan).  For full list call 212 808 2707.

•  W2NYC events: Registration for the following events is now open.  Please RSVP as soon as possible, as NYCEDC be expanding the invitation pool to a larger group tomorrow (Friday):
>> W2NYC Kickoff: The Urban Future of NYC: September 29th, Noon – 2:00pm
>> “Startup Stories” hosted by New Lab: September 29th, 2:30 – 3:30pm
>> Smart Cities and Big Data hosted by the NYU Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP): September 29th, 6:00 – 8:00pm
>> Investor Panel Lunch: September 30th, Noon – 2:00pm
>> W2NYC and Smart City Expo Evening Event: September 30th, 6:00 – 8:45pm
>> Closing Session and Summary with Media: October 1st, 3:30 – 4:30pm
In addition to the above the following events that may be of interest:

•  RISE : NYC: NYCEDC would like to cordially invite you the RISE: NYC Technology Demo Night taking place on October 7th.  The finalist teams will be presenting their projects which are in competition for up to $30M in funding.  This event is an exciting opportunity to learn about their innovative resiliency technologies and approaches to strengthening communities and small businesses against the impacts of future storms, sea level rise and other effects of climate change.  RSVP here.

  and EACCNY’s own   European American Chamber of Commerce: Resilient Cities – How to Prepare for the Next Storm – A Business Perspective: Private and corporate citizens of coastal cities demand a higher degree of preparedness as well as proactive initiatives to deal with rising sea levels and storms. Companies are increasingly facing stakeholders, shareholders and investors, who mandate a more sophisticated environmental risk management.  This program on October 1st will discuss what options are available and what has been done in other cities around the world.
