Antitrust: Commission opens formal investigation in the biofuels sector concerning ethanol benchmarks

The European Commission has opened a formal antitrust investigation to scrutinise whether three ethanol producers have, in breach of EU antitrust rules, manipulated ethanol benchmarks published by a price reporting agency. The companies concerned are Abengoa S.A. of Spain, Alcogroup SA of Belgium and Lantmännen ek för of Sweden, together with their relevant subsidiaries. They produce, distribute and trade ethanol. Commission welcomes the successful ratification of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Single Resolution Mechanism by Greece and calls on Luxembourg to follow suit

EU agri-food exports still at record level

After a slow-down in August, the value of EU agri-food exports has resumed the positive trend (+13%), as monthly exports in September exceeded imports by €2 billion. The exports to the US (+19%) and China (+18%) did particularly well. Russia fell down to fourth position as destination for EU agri-food exports, after US, China and Switzerland. Justice and Home Affairs Ministers adopt proposal for Europol regulation

Today, the Justice and Home Affairs Council adopted the Commission's proposal for a new legal basis for Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency. Earlier this week, the European Parliament's Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs had already endorsed the proposal. IMF Executive Board Concludes 2015 Article IV Consultation with Sweden

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the Article IV consultation1 with Sweden. At today’s meeting the Governing Council of the ECB decided that the interest rate on the deposit facility will be decreased by 10 basis points to -0.30%, with effect from 9 December 2015.
