EU ministers discuss future of Common Agricultural Policy

Dutch Minister for Agriculture Martijn van Dam will be hosting a two-day informal meeting of the Agriculture Council on 30 and 31 May. The meeting, which will be held in Amsterdam and the Eindhoven region during the Netherlands EU Presidency, will be attended by all EU agriculture ministers. The meeting’s central theme will be ‘Food of the future – the future of food’, focusing on innovation and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Food to be

On Monday 30 May the 28 EU ministers, accompanied by Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Phil Hogan, will visit ‘Food to be’, a temporary exhibition on the future of food being held in Eindhoven. They will then move on to the Philips GrowWise agriculture lab, and end the day at a dairy producer with a freestall barn and milking robots.
On Tuesday 31 May the ministers will travel from Eindhoven to Amsterdam’s National Maritime Museum and Ecodome to brainstorm and discuss the future of the Common Agricultural Policy.

Food to be

The ‘Food to be’ exhibition will be officially opened by Mr Van Dam and the mayor of Eindhoven, Rob van Gijzel, on 30 May. The exhibition, which will act as a platform for innovative entrepreneurs, scientists and designers to present their ideas on the future of our food system, will be open to the public from 31 May to 5 June (Klokgebouw – Strijp S, Eindhoven – free entry).
