AICEP Portugal Global | How Artificial Intelligence is shaping the Fashion Industry

Artificial Intelligence (AI) sets new world trends, especially in the ever-evolving fashion industry. Through cutting-edge technology, fashion designers can create, produce and market their products in new innovative ways, as well as contribute to increasing the industry’s efficiency and sustainability.

From trend prediction to conscious impact

This new and revolutionary technology is impactful in many areas of fashion design; however, it is in trend prediction and analysis that its significance is more noticeable. Through advanced algorithms, vast amounts of data can be processed, including social media posts, search engine queries, and sales data, to identify consumer behaviour patterns and trends. Predicting and identifying these patterns allows designers to create products that resonate with the consumers and, consequently, aids in the increase of sales.

Despite its magnitude in the trend-prediction area, AI also allows fashion designers to tackle the traditional forms of the designing process and instead innovate through AI-powered tools. These tools offer automatically generated patterns, colour palettes and fabric choices based on their inputs, amplifying creativity and uniqueness.

Also, AI is currently being used in the production of fashion pieces by powering robots responsible for manufacturing garments. AI directly impacts sustainability through the analysis of data on the social and environmental effects of different materials and methods, as well as their consequent reduction of risk of errors when cutting, sewing and knitting fabric. This aspect also stimulates the designers to make conscious and informed decisions.

The revolution of shopping habits

Outside of the designing and production process, the fashion industry is promptly adapting to this new reality, revolutionising how fashion items are marketed and sold and how customers interact with them.

Virtual fitting rooms powered by Artificial Intelligence are growing in popularity, introducing the possibility of trying on clothes virtually by creating a 3D model of the customer’s body. This process will help determine how the items will fit accurately, enhancing the shopping experience and saving time and resources for retailers.

From analysing customer behaviour and trends and transforming how fashion is designed, AI is shaping the Fashion Industry, making innovation wearable.
