European Parliament supports new emissions rules for HGVs
This week, the European Parliament adopted a negotiating position that supports rules to reduce air pollution from trucks and buses. The position was adopted with 445 votes in favor, 152 against, and 30 abstentions, showing a large majority of the Parliament is on board with the EU’s objectives regarding emissions and the green transition overall. Earlier this week, in a bold move toward securing Europe’s position as a leader in sustainable technology, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) threw their enthusiastic support behind the “Net-Zero Industry Act.” This legislative initiative, adopted with 376 votes in favour, 139 against, and 116 abstentions, reflects a concerted effort to bolster Europe’s manufacturing prowess in technologies critical for decarbonisation. The act not only sets a target for Europe to meet 40% of its annual net-zero technology deployment needs by 2030 but also aims to seize a significant 25% share of the global market for these innovations. Energy Security Strategy prioritises renewables in shift to sustainables
On 17 November, the Government published Ireland’s energy security report which underlined Ireland’s focus on ensuring sufficient energy supply while also guaranteeing a sustainable transition to a carbon neutral energy system by 2050. The strategy was defined by three policy objectives: sustainability, affordability, and security with the four main priorities of the package are reduced and responsive demand, a renewables-led system, more resilient systems, and robust risk governance.
