INVEST IN FRANCE: Fleur Pellerin launches “La French Tech” Digital City Accreditation Phase

Ms. Fleur Pellerin, Minister Delegate for SMEs, Innovation and the Digital Economy, used an evening to celebrate the coming year with the French digital economy ecosystem to launch a call for proposals for “accredited digital cities”.

This marks the first stage of the “La French Tech” initiative launched on December 2, 2013, backed by €200 million from the French government’s “National Investment Program”.
During her speech to nearly 500 participants, Ms. Pellerin reminded the audience of the broad strategic outlines of her policies for France’s digital economy, announcing that France will be represented through “La French Tech” at major international events, including South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas and the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, and commenting that “the ‘La French Tech’ initiative aims to bring together all stakeholders in France’s digital economy.”

€15 million are to be spent on international promotion through the Invest in France Agency (IFA), which has been commissioned by the Caisse des dépôts et consignations (CDC), a state-owned investment bank, with the task of piloting this campaign.

The evening also saw the unveiling of the official “La French Tech” visual identity and the launch of the website. Several interactive terminals were provided for participants to sign themselves up.
The minister concluded her speech with a wish for 2014: “I hope that we succeed in bringing together the largest number of digital stakeholders in France and abroad.”
