Even before all of the craziness that was kicked off on “Liberation Day”, GDLSK partners Frank Desiderio and Arthur Bodek were invited to give a presentation entitled “Truth or Dare – Trump Tariffs – Truth v. Fake News” to the Quebec General Delegation in New York on March 11, 2025. 

We addressed the then current state of affairs as it related to:

• Brief History of Trade War Tariffs
• Review of Trade Actions under Trump 1.0
• Current “Proposals” and Actions under Trump 2.0
• What Implementation may Look Like
• Strategies to Consider to Reduce Adverse Impact of Tariffs
• Case Studies

Our presentation focused on the trade actions under the administrations of “Trump 1.0” (e.g., China 301, Section 301 EU Large Civil Aircraft Dispute,   and steel / aluminum Section 232 tariffs) and the then current state of affairs under “Trump 2.0” (IEEPA tariffs against China, Canada and Mexico, upcoming reciprocal tariffs, expanded steel and aluminum tariffs, to name a few). Also discussed were available mitigation strategies premised on such issues as duty-savings opportunities and a close examination of the prevailing country origin rules.
